Its monotonous, its exhausting, its not sexy, its not always fun, there are no shortcuts -but it works. Stay together with your baby daddy, and make him contribute to the family, don't have kids with losers, and when you get home exhausted from your day at work, force your kids to eat a family dinner, talk about their day, and do their homework, and then read to them at night, even as you fall asleep in their beds doing it. It is called personal responsibility you either have it, or you dont. Again I don't have a good solution that works for everyone - nobody does - but dont trot out the BS that birth control is not affordable and its someone elses fault that I can't get a job because I don't have a car. Nothing Obama touched with regards to health care got better. We tossed affordability out the window because of the perceived problems of pre-existing conditions years ago. Metro works just fine - so long as you choose to live and work on one of its routes, and we HAD affordable health insurance years ago. If you can't find $5 - keep your legs shut. I don't know where you live, but birth control can be obtained from just about anywhere today for $5/month. the things that would make every single day of her life less of an out-of-control struggle. Easily accessible and affordable birth control, good public transportation, health insurance, for starters. I love when people blame parents, but then offer nothing that would actually help a working, low-income mother. The board has been a disaster, as has state government politics, but let's not forget what HISD has to do each day. There aren't too many districts with such a massive disparity in have/have not. HISD has a huge task, which is keeping the families of means, and giving them a good education, while using their support to help the families who don't have means. Equality of opportunity doesn't mean that we each get the same financial resources allocated to us. Equality of opportunity is an important part of our public education system (not equality of outcome, those are separate and distinct). Same with the majority of middle- and upper-middle class families in HISD (and all districts). So are you proposing that we DECREASE the resources to help at-risk populations? My child doesn't need as much money spent on her at school because she has stronger resources in other parts of her life. They’ve taken over traditional AA areas but don’t bring the same support as the school life just Suffers. The stories I’ve heard how some schools are enrolling kids who just came to the US and they’re so far behind nothing can be done. Hate to say it but spending so many resources to help one population has been the issue. There's no way that that would be allowed, since it would violate a myriad of laws and regulations on discrimination. This isn't going to change any time soon, as it's an overall societal problem, not specifically a school issue. Cheapest place to get brakes done riveroaks tx how to#Parents definitely need to be more involved, but it's tough if they are single parents, parents with no concept of how education works(common among immigrants), and parents who just don't know how to be parents. Cheapest place to get brakes done riveroaks tx free#Let Riveroaks, West U, Bellaire, etc all run themselves, free of the rules/restrictions that may needed in Alief where the problems are much different. If I were handed the keys to the schools, I would probably break HISD up into multiple much much smaller districts to be more manageable. I won't pretend to have a magic solution - but charters/magnets are certainly helping to get economically disadvantaged kids better education than HISD could do with the schools they are zoned too. ![]() The last thing I want to do when I get home is fight over 2 hours of homework, but its what we do. ![]() I've got 3 smart kids, that would do nothing if we did not push them every. Very few kids will succeed academically if they are not pushed/encouraged by their s truly rare to have a kid that is academically motivated on his/her own. ![]() Integrating the higher performing kids both academic/economically speaking typically just drags the higher performing kids down.Without parents, none of this is going to get fixed. The magnet schools just amplify the problem, b/c the parents in the lower income areas with the failing schools who actually do care and are trying to give their kids a leg up - are savy enough to navigate those programs and get their children into those magnets and out of the neighborhood schools where they are surrounded by folks who think the schools should be babysitters, teachers, parents, coaches, etc, etc, etc. The single largest problem is PARENTS - Lack of a family unit, - no fathers in the picture, and parents who expect the schools to teach their kids not just the basics, but also all the subjects that they as parents failed to teach, like how to behave, and common courtesy.there is no accountability for how bad of a job the PARENTS are doing at raising their children. ![]()
